Medical students in North Uist
Welcome to North Uist Medical Practice. We love having students here and look forward to meeting you.
North Uist is a traditional crofting community set in one of the most beautiful landscapes imaginable, but with access to an airport within 30 minutes drive, and 2 ferry links to the mainland.
A paradise for bird watching, surfing, windsurfing, kayaking, walking and sailing – if you have any sporting interests we would be happy to try and facilitate them – just ask for advice.
You will be joining a tightly knit practice with genuinely friendly staff who get along well. We want you to enjoy yourself – but we believe in helping foster a good work ethic. It is important to us that you engage fully in trying to learn from as many patient encounters as possible, and we will encourage you to demonstrate your knowledge and skills whilst also highlighting any gaps that need working on.

Transport.
Flights from Glasgow to Benbecula.
Ferries go from Uig in Skye or Oban.
Shopping.
There is a small shop in Lochmaddy, but the main co-op is in Sollas in the North of the island – hard to get to if you don’t have transport. Be aware that all the shops are shut on Sunday – so if you are arriving on a Saturday evening you will need some supplies with you.
Phones.
Mobile signals in Lochmaddy are quite variable. Orange / Three work well. O2 and vodafone are pretty bad. Depending how important this is for you you may wish to buy a spare SIM card before arriving.
